JOBS/HELP WANTED

Edwin Camp told me his daughter has been reading this and passed it on.

Here’s an excerpt from a book I’m reading by Kris Vallotton called Destined to Win:

Hardworking

While some people are soldiers, still others are hardworking farmers. For them, life is about land, fruit trees, and fertilizer. Farmers are plodders; they are consistent and patient people who, through prolonged labor, receive their rewards in harvest seasons. Paul shared this observation about them: “The hardworking farmer ought to be the first to receive his share of the crops” 2 Tim 2:6-7.

Skilled farmers must be visionaries because they plant trees that yield no harvest for several years. I learned this lesson from my grandfather, who raised me. The price of peaches plummeted when I was in high school, so my grandfather and I pulled all of them out and planted walnut trees. What I didn’t understand at the time was that the walnut trees we planted would bear nothing worth harvesting for five long years. Looking back now, I understand that farmers are people who are constantly investing in the future. They labor in hope and live by faith, dreaming of a better day.

Perhaps you find yourself at home among these folk. You love to work hard, and you exhibit great patience, knowing your effort will be rewarded in time. You enjoy doing life in different seasons. You love to chill in the winter of life, aware that “He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely, but he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully” Proverbs 10:5.
