JOBS/HELP WANTED

The Buena Vista Water Storage District’s board of directors met on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at its Buttonwillow headquarters. Last month’s meeting was six or seven minutes long. Everyone assured me that was a fluke. I believe them. They run a tight meeting. Chairman John Vidovich called today’s meeting to order at 9:00 am. The minutes were approved and I made a public comment about efforts to limit the amount of uncontested races for district seats. I’m preparing a report on this for later.

BVWSD has a good deal of items on consent calendar. The item dealing with the local area formation commission – LAFCo – is looking for a special district representative. The board nominated Director Terry Chicca. Chicca said he attended a ceremony for Isabella Dam. He was the only one who showed up. No one from North Kern or Kern Delta or anywhere else showed up. He said he met a one star general. He was a bit disappointed at the turn out.

General Manager Tim Ashlock was tasked to develop a policy about using district canals for water runs outside of the usual runs. The board approved a 7/10th run for later this month. There is a project to install a pipeline by 7th Standard Road. Vidovich and Director John Cauzza will be on a committee to give board input on this project. They will also be the committee to monitor pump station projects.

The Kern County Water Agency will be hosting a workshop this Friday about the California Water Fix. The idea is how to afford keeping Kern County in the mix. Vidovich said he’d met with Wonderful Orchard folks about this but there is a lot of confusion. This involves getting bonds together and how to qualify for that at the lowest rate. Credit ratings are also on the table. It was a 20-minute meeting.

The meeting then went into closed session.
