Note from WaterWrights.net: Congratulations.
The Kaweah Subbasin has received notice from the State Water Resources Control Board that a high-level preliminary review of its Groundwater Sustainability Plans (GSPs) shows substantial progress in addressing the identified deficiencies. As a result, the probationary hearing scheduled for January 7, 2025, has been cancelled.
The State Board staff will now proceed with a detailed review to determine if the revised plans meet all requirements.
This is a significant development for the Kaweah Subbasin, which consists of the East Kaweah, Greater Kaweah, and Mid-Kaweah Groundwater Sustainability Agencies (GSAs). Over the past year, these GSAs have collaborated extensively to update their plans, incorporating feedback from the State Board staff.
In early October, they released draft plans for review and public comment, followed by the adoption of their 2nd Amended GSPs. These amendments were made to address deficiencies identified by the Department of Water Resources and the State Water Resources Control Board, as well as to integrate comments received during the review process.
While this progress marks a major milestone, the work continues. The Kaweah Subbasin will now focus on ongoing collaboration with State Board staff as they complete their review. Additionally, the Subbasin will ramp up efforts to implement the monitoring, projects, and management actions outlined in the updated plans.
