Stanislaus County Deploys California’s First Innovative

EGRP® Infiltration System

OAKDALE, Calif.Dec. 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — As California copes with fewer and more intense rain events, Stanislaus County is taking action to adapt by deploying a state-of-the-art infiltration enhancement technology, from The Water Group, LLC. The technology will sustainably capture stormwater to accelerate groundwater recharge and reduce standing water on city roads to improve public safety.

Based on successful deployments at airports, college campuses, city parks, golf courses, and other sites in the United States and Europe, the County selected Parjana® Distribution’s Energy-Passive Groundwater Recharge Product (EGRP®) to address standing water and increase the rate of groundwater recharge at two locations in Oakdale, California. Parjana®, with the support of The Water Group, LLC, completed California’s first deployments this month.

The Parjana® system pulls standing water from the surface from the natural infiltration of the native soils, pressure differential, hydrostatic pressure, and gravity. A typical installation includes dozens of 5 to 40-foot-long devices with special C-shaped chambers, roughly as big as a quarter and open to the outside; the devices are installed two feet or more beneath natural topsoil and are spaced a few feet apart. The two locations in the County will utilize nearly 8,000 linear feet of EGRP®.  Within the ground, the EGRP® system creates preferred pathways for the water to flow and proceed through the natural recharge process, filtering and absorbing pollutants and contaminants, before replenishing the groundwater aquifers.

California’s weather and soils are ideal locations to deploy the EGRP® system. The Stanislaus County system is designed to infiltrate one inch of rainfall in 24 hours, which is nearly 100% greater than conditions prior to the installation of the EGRP® system,” Joe Kramer, the Director of Market Development at Parjana® Distribution explains.

By accelerating infiltration into and through the near-surface soils, EGRP® technology increases the volume of storm water that can be stored, infiltrated, and ultimately recharged. Excess surface water that would have pooled or run off is captured and filtered below grade—offering improved water quality, reduced flooding, and accelerated groundwater recharge for locations throughout California and beyond.
