The Kings River Water District met on Thursday, March 21, 2019 in Centerville. Chairman Jack Paxton called the meeting to order at 8:00am and the minutes were approved. There was no public comments or additions to the agenda. There were no potential conflicts of interest and General Manager/Engineer Nick Keller gave the treasurer report. That report was approved and the board agreed to pay its bills. Keller gave an update on the 2018-2019 assessments. There are more than 400 parcels in KRWD and 80 of these parcels have changed size or ownership. Cal Trans is expanding State Route 180 and permanently removed about 20 acres from right of way/eminent domain which will cost KRWD about $320 in annual loses. 
There is a device known as a hail cannon. I’d never heard of it but evidently I’ve heard one. It sends out a big bangs when hail is falling. The force of the concussion shatters the hail and there is a theory it sends out ions that prevents the hail from forming as a ball and it goes to slush. There was some hail came through recently and the cannons went off. Evidently they can really rattle the windows and shake the doors.
Attorney Lauren Layne called it in and said there’s a bill to help fund snow surveys coming through the state legislature that she said is being supported by the Kings River Water Association. She said the KRWA has adopted a $7 million budget and there was a savings of $400,000 due to overestimating last year.
The KRWD has pretty good supplies at this time with more on the way as the more storms come in. It was a very short meeting on the public side it went to closed session in less than a half hour.

The Kings River Water District meets at 8:00am on the third Thursday of the month at the Gerawan Farms Offices on Smith Avenue in Centerville California. KRWD is a member of the East Kings GSA and receives supplies from the Kings River. President Jack Paxton, Curtis Taylor, Danny Van Ruiten, Steve Boos & Mike Hacker.
General Manager/Engineer Nick Keller, Attorney Loraine Layne, Superintendent Mike Sullivan, Ditch Tender Ken Domoto. KRWD has about 19,000 acres of tree fruit, grapes and nuts along the Kings River bottom land on the east side of the San Joaquin Valley.
