JOBS/HELP WANTED

Bermad irrigationThe World Ag Expo is a big deal. Here at WaterWrights.net we think our clients are a big deal as well. So here’s a mash up of WAE and the good folks who advertise with us and some of our colleagues and friends for good measure. WAE is running from Tuesday, February 8 through Thursday, February 10th. Normal hours are from 9:00am to 5:00pm Tuesday and Wednesday and 9:00am to 4:00pm on Thursday. The WAE is located at the International Agri Center grounds, 4500 S. Laspina St. Tulare, CA 93274. You can contact them at: 559/688-1030, 800/999-9186 or info@farmshow.org

ConterraThe Expo

In 1968 the Greater Tulare Chamber or Commerce and the University of California Ag Extension Service put on the California Field and Row Crop Equipment Show. In 1979 it became the California Farm Equipment Show and International Exposition. By 1982 there were more than 1,000 exhibitors and moved to the International Agri-Center just south of Tulare. In 2001 the name was changed to the World Ag Expo since there were 61 nations representing 55 languages in attendance.

Now the World Ag Expo has a full-time staff and more than 1,200 volunteers, almost one for each of the 1,256 exhibitors. It’s a major boost to local dining and lodging. You can’t get a last minute room from Fresno to Bakersfield during the run of the Expo.

The World Ag Expo takes place on a very large footprint. There is more than 200 acres of exhibit area and parking. To give you non landowners an idea, I’ve been told an acre is just about the size of  a football field. I do not know how fast you would have to walk to visit each exhibitor once during the three day event.

Speakers to See and Hear

One of the highlights of the WAE are the seminars offered as part of admission. In the southeastern most portion of the grounds are the seminar facilities. There is an almost continual stream of speakers shedding light on all manner of ag related topics. Everyone from scientists with advanced degrees to congressmen are going to share their knowledge on many facets of farming. It’s rare club to belong to and we’re very proud of two WaterWrights.net clients speaking at the Expo.

Paige Gilligan, CEO of Risk Mitigators & Advisors and regular contributor to WaterWrights.net will be giving a talk titled simply, “SGMA- Round 3”.  Gilligan will be asking (and presumably answering) the question, “What have we learned throughout the first two phases of SGMA regulations and what lies ahead for some of the subbasins across California?” Gilligan will be speaking at Seminar Trailer 3 on Thursday, February 10th starting at 9:30am.

Then just a little later the same morning Morgan Halpenny, CEO and founder of Pumpsight will be speaking on “Practical Tips for Groundwater Monitoring” at 11:30am at Seminar Trailer One on Thursday, February 10th. The description of Halpenny’s talk is, “Measuring groundwater levels is one of the most common ways to measure the health of a well and the groundwater table. As most areas with developed agriculture are facing declining groundwater levels, it is becoming more important than ever to accurately measure groundwater levels in order to begin to manage them. Laws such as SGMA and the resulting regulations are going to require many local regulators to codify how and when they measure their groundwater tables. This seminar will provide practical information, trade-offs, and tips for understanding and correctly monitoring groundwater tables.”

There are many other seminars and events worth sitting in on. Go to https://www.worldagexpo.com/ for time, date and locations.  Here are some that sound either fun, informative or both:
